2023 SPRING INTERNSHIP
Skills previously obtained before my internship:
Tenacity, Discourse, Sovereignty, Planning, and Design.
Skills learning during my internship:
Electrical, Mechanical, Material, Acoustic, and Software Engineering.
Workplace Skills, Self Confidence, Resume Building, Communication Skills.
Soldering: -Printed Circuit Board -RCA connectors, Twisted Pairs, Computer Repair Voltmeter Measurements -Voltage Resistance -AC and DC Currents -Continuity -Batteries, Oscilloscope Usage -SIN waves -Music Amplifier Outputs, Power supplies, Consumer Product Repair, Acoustic Testing, Computer Hardware and Software Installation and Repair, Internet Research.
Learned how electricity is made.
Challenges I faced:
Having my way of life and thoughts challenged both physically and mentally. Understanding how the world of marketing and economics works from the perspective of an entrepreneur, and ex-big leagues salesman, gave me an enlightened look into the technology business workspace.
My mentor, James, has taken a great many interns before me. The previous students had a similar experience for me, an experience I would recommend for all animas students. Main Street Technology is a wonderful learning environment and is littered with top of the line equipment, making it a welcoming and easy to settle into workplace.
Now that I have completed my internship, I have the necessary experience to enter the adult world and begin working. James recommended me to a college that would fit my wants very well, that I may work towards attending in the future.
LINK
LINK is a program that allows all juniors at animas to gain real world experience during a three week period in which they take an internship under a mentor. Each student is required to have a project they work on, as proof of their learning, and participation.
My LINK was with James Cudworth, the founding owner of Main Street Technology, and independent producer of electronic components. During my time there I was able to see what the production of electronics looks like and learn just how in depth the assembly process of any one product can be.
For my project I was tasked with creating two flat panel speakers, experimental prototypes designed by James' associates that never made the market. The project went off without a hitch and the speakers are in use in my room to this day.
LINK Reflection
Coming to LINK I had relatively no work experience and not many skills to my name, but in the short fifteen days that I was there, I learned leaps and bounds more that I could have anticipated. I can fix things previously un-fixable, I can make things previously un-makeable, my arsenal of knowledge has expanded threefold. Take for example, the Apple earbud, one of the most broken and repurchase items to millions of Americans. I fixed a set of these earbuds in only a few hours, without any prior knowledge of how to. Now, any time my friends or family have broken equipment, I can fix it. However this is not without its caveats. I learned over the duration of the internship, that I might have a short term memory problem. Or perhaps I was just far too exhausted from all the information I took in just six short hours.
James has been a huge help in my journey for education, his wisdom and his openness for students makes him a prime candidate for other interns. I was James' fourth intern, and I received a similar treatment to the others, an experience I think all people should have once in their life. As well, with the experience I got from James, I feel like that if that's what a professional is like then college and the rest of the world will be an easy game. Not to mention the engineering rep I'm going to have working with someone like James.
